If you are a college student, along with learning all of the technical
skills that you will need to prepare for your career, be sure not to
overlook the all-important skill of communicating.
Practice is the key to perfecting any new skill, especially
communication. If you are looking to change habits such as using fillers
(e.g., “um”, “uh”, “like”), talking too fast, or fidgeting with your
hands, you need to start practicing NOW!
This course will not only help you prepare for a successful school year but also a professional career after college.
This course is not a standard public speaking course, which tends to be geared toward a general audience. You will begin by completing a self-assessment so you will know what areas of public speaking you need to target. You will also record a speaking sample so the course content can include tips geared toward your challenge areas. New content will be made available on a weekly basis. With regular practice, at the end of this course you should notice improvement in one or more of the following areas:
- Speaking confidence
- Improved clarity
- More natural speech
- More effective communication skills
